J. Brandon Dekker, M.S., DBIA
Principal and Practice Leader | CannonDesign

In addition to his leadership role in his firm, Brandon serves as the President of the CMAA SoCal Chapter, and as Senior VP of the DBIA Western Pacific Region.   He also sits on the California Community College Facility Coalition (CCFC) Board.  Brandon has a master’s degree in Construction Management with a concentration in Professional Real Estate Development from Drexel University’s College of Engineering and is a graduate of Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business Leadership in Innovation and Entrepreneurship Executive Program.


Garrett Terlaak
Principal | fs3|Hodges

Active in the construction management industry since 1997, Garrett is the Vice President of the CMAA SoCal Chapter. At fs3|Hodges, which specializes in education, U.S. Government, and transportation projects, Garrett oversees operations, contract management, business development, human resources, and information technology. He is also a shareholder and CFO of Overwatch Construction Management, a SDVOSB that provides CPM scheduling services. He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Southern California.



Evan Rossi,

Project Engineer | Balfour Beatty

Evan is a recent San Diego State University graduate with a degree in Construction Engineering and Sustainability. He is currently working as a Project Engineer with Balfour Beatty US and is a past CMAA multiple scholarship recipient.

Karl Kreutziger

Cole Leslie
Human Resource Business Partner | CW Driver Companies

Cole started off his career in construction and later graduated from California State University Long Beach with a bachelor’s degree in construction engineering management. Cole has taken a serpentine path to his current role as a Human Resource Business Partner. He most enjoys meeting people and learning who they are, what led them to this exciting industry, and where they want to take their career.

Daniel Shirkey, EIT, DBIA, LEED AP
Sr. Director of Technology & Operations Improvement Balfour Beatty

Daniel is the Sr. Director of Technology and Operational Improvement for the California Division of Balfour Beatty. Daniel currently leads the VDC and Scheduling departments for Balfour Beatty's California Division. Daniel also was an adjunct-professor for 4 years at his alma mater San Diego State University. He is a past leader and current member of the Steering Committee for the San Diego Lean Construction Institute Community of Practice and is an Executive Committee Member of the San Diego County Taxpayers Association.


Aaron Magdaleno

Estimator | BNBuilders

Aaron is an estimator for BNBuilders with eight years of experience and is a graduate of San Diego State University with a degree in Civil Engineering.  He currently leads preconstruction efforts for a variety of biotech and higher education clients and is often a guest lecturer at his alma mater, and coach for the VDC team at the Associated Schools of Construction Student Competition.

Michael Boomsma, PE, CCM, LEED AP
Senior VP | Cordoba Corporation

Michael leads the Education and Facilities Sector for Cordoba Corporation.  He is a professional engineer and a certified construction management professional.  As a current member of the US Air Force Reserves, Colonel Boomsma continues a long track record of solving problems with limited resources.  He received his BS in Civil Engineering from the US Air Force Academy and his MBA from Florida State University.


Craig Ellis, DBIA, STS, LEED AP
Vice President | XL Construction

A 1993 graduate from Chico State with a BS in Construction Management, Craig has been working in the industry as a general contractor for 28 years and is currently leading XL’s Civic Business unit.  While he truly enjoys the building process, his favorite part of the job is seeing people grow.   



Kevin Laut, CCM, DBIA, CASp, LEED GA
Director of Construction Management | CSU Office of the Chancellor

As a systemwide director of construction for the California State University, office of the chancellor, Kevin supports projects across 23 CSU campuses.  Kevin is a graduate of Missouri University of Science and Technology’s Architectural Engineering program and obtained his MBA from California State University Long Beach.

Carla Collins
Vice President | United Engineering Resources (UER)

Carla is the president of the CMAA NorCal Chapter and Vice President of UER and its wholly owned subsidiaries, MatriScope Engineering Labs and Signet Testing Labs. With over 15 years of construction industry experience, she oversees the marketing and project management division.  She is responsible for account management as it relates to special inspections and materials testing services on construction projects throughout Northern California, and was a recipient for the Top 40 under 40 Award by the Sacramento Biz Journal.

Michael Kenny
Principal | Kenny Consulting Services, Inc.

Michael is the San Diego CMAA Chapter president and Principal for Kenny Consulting Services. Michael was the first Owner representative on the San Diego Board of Directors while Principal Construction Manager at the San Diego County Water Authority. During his time at the Water Authority he was involved in implementation of over $2.5 Billion of water infrastructure improvements.
